EPZ Export Business Incubator

The Export Processing Zones Authority in collaboration with the Export Promotion Council and the Kenya Industrial Estates, are developing the EPZ Export Business Incubator, designed to support and nurture export-oriented small and medium enterprises resident in an EPZ environment. The feasibility study was conducted by consultants retained by the Commonwealth Secretariat in 2003-4, with a major stakeholders conference being held in July 2004. The   project will service the needs of 30-40 selected, high growth potential enterprises, owned and operated by Kenyans and engaged in manufacture and service provision.

Target sectors are:

      • Food  and other agro-processing
      • Textile and clothing
      • Commercial crafts and jewelry
      • Information and Communication Technology services
Incubator tenants will be housed in small-size units in the zones and profit from provision of business development services, finance, shared facilities and marketing support by the staff of the Incubator Project as well as hired mentors and expert consultants. Implementation will  initially be at Athi River for food/ agro-processing and ICT sectors; textile and apparel and commercial crafts sector. The project is slated to begin in 2006.
